After the news got out that Guillermo Linares was joining the candidates (Adam Clayton Powell, Bill Perkins, Clyde Williams, Keith Wright, Mike Gallagher, And Suzan Johnson Cook) seeking to replace Charles Rangel in NY-13, Council Member Ydanis Rodriguez had an idea.
It goes something like this, “Hey Guillermo, why don’t you run for Adriano’s Senate seat instead?”
Assmblyman Linares smiled and refused. His comments are in the Observer, “Assemblyman Rejects Espaillat Ally’s Offer to Not Run for Congress.”
“The senator ran twice, came up short and it is time to have someone represent this district with the credentials as I have and I fully intend to be an option for the voters….
No one will dismiss the diversity this district has and the fact that at the end of the day the voters and in their wisdom collectively will pick the person they feel will unify the district,” he said. “I’ve shown a track record of accomplishment and have a vision for the district that is promising. The voters should not be denied that.”
The Assemblyman can do math as well as the next person. Or candidate.
